1988-06-04 PARKS, RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD MINUTESMINUTES Minutes of the monthly meeting of the Pearland Parks, Recreation and Beautification Board held Saturday, June 41988, at the Pearland Community Center, 3523 Liberty Drive, Pearland Texas. The meeting was called to order by Chairman George Triebel Jr. with the following present: Inez Farmer, Larry Juull, Tootie McComb, Bob Pond, James Skipper, Claude Stegall, and Director Barry Lastik. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved on the motion of Larry Juull, seconded by Claude Stegall, and the vote of the Board. During old business Barry reported that the Historical Committee decided they did not want a second Historical marker on the Cemetery fence and an additional Old Settlers Cemetery Historical marker would cost over $600 to install. Tootie McComb made a motion to return the unsafe and non - serviceable Christmas lights to the Chamber of Commerce (who donated them several years ago) and that they not be replaced at the expense of the Parks Department. The motion was seconded by Larry Juull and the motion carried. Barry reported that he had submitted the results of the Parks Board budget work shop meeting to the Finance Department. The capital outlay items were 1) Pick up Truck, 2) Tot Playground unit, 3) Development of McLean Park, 4) Mower Deck, 5) Pool Furniture, 6) Repair of Swimming Pool Bathhouse Roof, 7) Air Conditioning Maintenance Contract, 8) Two Weedeaters and 9) Replacement of Wooden Light Poles with Metal Poles on Hand. During new business the Director presented the department reports and answered questions. The majority of the efforts were devoted to Independence Park with installation of a water line at the pavilion and reworking the entrance gate to the park. The Department received a letter of appreciation from the Rosette Chapter of the American Business Women's Association for courtesies received during their use of Independence pavilion. During open discussion Barry reported that Pearland had entered the Keep Texas Beautiful competition and came in third. He also reported that Pearland Clean Community System wanted to meet with the Parks Board about requesting a State Beautification grant. The board suggested they meet with us at our next meeting. Claude Stegall requested that the Parks Department consider sponsoring a seniors softball program. The next meeting will be held July 9, 1988. Larry Juull moved to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Claude Stegall. The meeting adjourned.
