1989-03-25 PARKS, RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD MINUTESMINUTES
Minutes of the monthly meeting of the Pearland Parks, Recreation
and Beautification Board held Saturday, March 25, 1989, at the
Pearland Community Center, 3523 Liberty Drive, Pearland Texas.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman George Treibel with
the following present: Inez Farmer, Larry Juull, Tootie McComb,
Bob Pond, James Skipper and Parks Director Barry Lastik. Claude
Stegall and Billy Wolff were absent.
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved on
the motion of Larry Juull, seconded by Inez Farmer, and the vote
of the Board.
Council approved naming the City property in Parkview in honor of
Aaron Pasternak.
The Parks Dept. will need some additional workers to assist in
park maintenance this summer. y
Barry reported that he had forwarded the Boards recommendation
concerning Park usage fees to the assistant City manager.
There was no information on the walk bridge across Mary's creek
into Independence Park.
During new business Barry reported on the various department
activities. The majority of the efforts were toward installing
playground equipment in Aaron Pasternak Park, preparing the Pool
for opening and mowing in Independence Park in preparation for
various park activities.
Inez Farmer moved to recommend to Council that the Grand Blvd.
Activity Center building be named in honor of Melvin Knapp.
Larry Juull seconded the motion and the motion carried.
During open discussion Barry requested that applications to work
on the Special Olympics be completed.
There have been no additional security patrols in Independence
Park.
The next meeting will be held April 8, 1989 at 9:00 a.m.
There were no nominations for beautification awards this month.
Bob Pond moved to adjourn and attend the Easter Egg Hunt. The
motion was seconded by James Skipper. The meeting adjourned.
