1989-11-18 PARKS, RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD MINUTESMINUTES Minutes of the monthly meeting of the Pearland Parks, Recreation and Beautification Board held Saturday, November 18, 1989, at the Pearland Community Center, 3523 Liberty Drive, Pearland Texas. The meeting was called to order by Chairman George Treibel with the following present: Inez Farmer, Larry Juull, Tootie McComb, Bob Pond, James Skipper, Claude Stegall, Parks Supervisor Barry Lastik and Councilman Billy Wolff. Continuing beautification awards were presented to Kentucky Fried Chicken and Burger King. Representatives from Burger King were present to accept the award. .Members of the local press were present to photograph the presentation. The minutes of the previous meeting stand approved as printed on the motion of Claude Stegall and second of Larry Juull. During old business Tootie McComb reported on Clean Pearland's fund raising efforts and current balance of moneys for the "Pearland .Hike and Bike Trail". Tootie requested the Boards direction as to being nominated to the Clean Pearland Board of Directors. A motion by Claude Stegall requesting Tootie to remain as liaison representative between the Parks Board and Clean Pearland. Larry Juull seconded the motion and the motion carried. Billy Wolff reported on the progress of the foot path connection between the Community Center and Independence Park. Total right of way has not yet been acquired and the Drainage District is waiting on some action on the foot path prior to proceeding. The Board requested that the foot bridge be completed as soon as possible for safety reasons. Councilman Wolff also reported on a $2500 piece of equipment that would allow development of a asphalt pathway about 54 inches wide, which could be used on the Pearland Hike and Bike Trail. No action has been taken by council concerning the abolishment of waiver of fees for the Community Center on weekends. During new business Barry reported on the various department activities. The majority of the efforts were toward park development. Inez Farmer made a motion to incorporate the proposed printed changes to the Community Center rental agreement policies. James Skipper seconded the motion and the motion carried. During open discussion Billy Wolff reported that the Council is actively pursuing the enlargement of the Melvin Knapp Activity Page 1 of 2 Center which is currently used by the senior citizens. There were no nominations for beautification awards this month. The next meeting will be held December 9, 1989. Larry Juull moved to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Tootie McComb.
