1989-12-09 PARKS, RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD MINUTESMINUTES
Minutes of the monthly meeting of the Pearland Parks, Recreation
and Beautification Board held Saturday, December 9 1989, at the
Pearland Community Center, 3523 Liberty Drive, Pearland Texas.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman George Treibel with
the following present: Inez Farmer, Larry Juull, Tootie McComb,
Bob Pond, James Skipper, Claude Stegall, Parks Superintendent
Barry Lastik.
Continuing beautification awards were presented to Pizza Hut and
Pizza Inn. A representative from Pizza Inn was present to accept
the award. A member of the local press was present to photograph
the presentation.
The minutes of the previous meeting stand approved as printed.
Larry noted that the office three hole punch needs to be aligned.
During old business Tootie McComb reported on Clean Pearland's
fund raising efforts and current balance of moneys for the
"Pearland Hike and Bike Trail". Tootie reported that a new
committee chairman had been appointed.
Barry reported that he was considering installing parking curbs
on the road in Independence Park separating pedestrians and
vehicle traffic. This would be the most economical method of
providing the desired pathways.
A meeting was held pertaining to the enlargement of the Melvin
Knapp Activity Center which is currently used by the senior
citizens. Plans are being developed.
The Board requested that the foot bridge be completed as soon as
possible for safety reasons.
During new business Barry reported on the various department
activities. The majority of the efforts were toward installing
Christmas decorations.
During open discussion Barry reported that he had forwarded all
documentation relating to the abolishment of waiver of fees for
the Community Center on weekends to the City Manager.
FY-90 Community Center rentals are up, seventeen weddings and
three new arts and crafts shows have been booked.
There were no nominations for beautification awards this month.
The next meeting will be held January 13, 1990.
Inez Farmer moved to adjourn. The motion was seconded by James
Skipper.
