Minutes of the monthly meeting of the Pearland Parks,
Recreation and Beautification Board held Saturday. August 10,
1991 at the Pearland Community Center, 3523 Liberty Drive,
Pearland, Texas 77581.
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Larry Juull
with members, Retta Absher, Vince Bruno, Suzanne Elliott,
Tootie McComb, James Skipper, Gary Walters, and Council
Liaison D. A. Miller present. Inez Farmer and Bob Pond were
not in attendance with excused absences.
Minutes of previous meeting were approved as written.
Under old business Barry updated the progress of the McLean
Park Grant, the FY 192 budget, submission of playground needs
to Pearland Rotary and progress of cleaning up Twin Creeks
Park.
Under new business the departmental reports were discussed.
A business was nominated for a certificate and a concurrence
vote is needed at September 21 meeting.
The following items were tabled until September 21 meeting:
OLD BUSINESS - Report by Billy Wolff on request for
donation of playground equipment and Report by Bob Pond
on Radio Controlled Airplanes.
NEW BUSINESS - Update of Beautification Award plaques.

Minutes of the monthly meeting of the Pearland Parks, Recreation and Beautification
Board held Saturday, August 10, 1991, at the Pearland Community Center, 3523 Liberty .•.

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Larry Juull with Vince Bruno, Suzanne
Elliott, Retta Absher, Tootie McComb, James Skipper, Gary Walters, Parks Superintendent
Barry Lastik, and Councilman D. A. Miller present. Barry reported that members Bob Pond
and Inez Farmer had excused absences.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved on the motion of Vince Bruno and
second of James Skipper. It was noted that Retta Absher was present at the July
meeting.
Barry reported reciept of quotes for four pieces of playground equipment for addition
to the Rotary Playground area and the Barbeque Area.
The report on radio controlled model airplane flying areas prepared by Bod Pond was
reviewed, but it was decided to wait until he could be present before discussing it.
Barry reported that he has been working with the City Manager and the Superintendent of
Public Works to get the Twin Creek Park cleaned of debris and to get a gate installed
to control Park hours of operation.
Barry reported that the pool will only be open on weekends now that school has started.
It will close after Labor Day. Pool income exceeded salary costs. The Coastal Swim Team
has been using the pool and paying for cost of opening and supervising it during their
use. However, the pool cannot be maintained open for them during the winter. .•.
Beautification Awards were postponed for reports from the absent members. Retta
nominated Larry Moser Auto for maintaining flower beds throughout the year by growing
seasonal flowers.
The question of fees for non-resident Pearland business owners was considered and the
Board asked that the City Manager's opinion be made available at the next meeting and
that the question be considered then.
Councilman Miller discussed the City's plans for garbage removal and recycling and how
that might affect a shift of responsibilities from Clean Pearland to Parks and
Beautification. There was a general discussion about work of Clean Pearland and the
Chamber of Commerce in various areas of city services.
The Board terms of Bob Pond, Tootie McComb and James Skipper are expiring and they will
be considered for re -nomination.
The next meeting was set for September 21st.
Suzanne Elliot moved to adjourn, Vince Bruno seconded the motion, and the Board voted
to adjourn.
