A regular meeting of the Pearland City Council was held on Thursday
December 10, 1964, at the City Hall, l) )12.9 Texas Avenue, with the
following city officials and guests in attendance.
Mayor John G.Kegley, Councilmen Victor A. Nolen, Lloyd C. Hawkins,
Steven A. Shukanes, Thomas P. Alexander, Gene E. Sanders, City
Attorney Jack Harrison, City Engineer William C. Walsh and City
Secretary W. A. McClellan. Councilman Steven Shukanes absent.
Guests : M. L. McCarty, F. H. McElya, D. A. Lane, David L. Smith, Jr. ,
Bob Lee, Escue V. Harris, C . Cunningham, Ray Corder, Mrs . Ray
Corder, Mrs . M. L. McCarty, W. S . Barlow and Orlen 01 Day.
Mayor Kegley called the meeting to order at 7 :30 P. M.
Motion made by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Alexander that minutes
of regular meeting held on November 24th, 1964, be approved. All
Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes . " Motion carried,
Motion made by Alexander, seconded by Sanders that minutes of special
meeting held on December 3, 1964, be approved. All Councilmen voted
"aye" with no "noes ." Motion carried.
Motion made by Councilman Alexander, seconded by Nolen that minutes
of special meeting held on December 5, 1964, be approved as corrected.
All Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes': Motion carried.
Motion made by Councilman Alexander, seconded byNolen that minutes
of special meeting held on December 9, 1964, be approved as corrected.
All Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes ." Motion carried.

Motion made by Councilman Alexander, seconded by Sanders that the

Councilman Nolen reported that the sanitary sewer lift station to
serve Sherwood Subdivision had been completed. He . agreed to contact
Mr. John C. Foster of the Houston Lighting and Power Company to
request them to remove their guy wire so that the machinery could be
housed.
Motion made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Sanders
that the City pay $800.00 to the Brazoria County Drainage District
No. L for the City' s share of the expense incurred in fighting the
recent encephalitis epidemic. All Councilmen voted "aye" with no
"noes. " Motion carried.
Motion made by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Nolen that City
Secretary make an emergency purchase of twelve Badger water meters .
All Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." Motion carried.
Mayor Kegley stated that the next order of business would be the
awarding of contracts to bidders.
Councilman Nolen asked Engineer William Walsh if all bids had been
checked for substitutions of material and equipment and for deviations
from the specifications .
Engineer Walsh stated all bids and items were in order and that he
was satisfied with the low bids for each project.
CONTRACT A
II Motion made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Shukanes that Sewage
Treatment Plant No. 3 bid of McCarty Construction Co. , Inc. of
$99,750.00 be accepted, subject to the approval of the U. S . Depart-
ment of Public Health Service, and upon recommendations. of City
Engineer Walsh, as being the lowest and best bid. All Councilmen
voted "aye" with no "noes ." Motion carried.
CONTRACT B
Motion made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Shukanes that Sanitary

Company of $248,899.00 be accepted,, subject o the approVal the
U. S . Department of Public Health Service and upon recommendation of
City Engineer Walsh as being the lowest and best bid. All Councilmen
voted "aye" with no "noes ." Motion carried.
Mr. Clint Cunningham explained to the Council that due to a levy
across some lots in Willowcrest Subdivision blocking the drainage of
water, Mimosa Acres as well as Willowcrest Subdivision was being
affected.
Mayor Kegley instructed the Subdivision Committee to check this
matter and report at a later meeting.
David L. Smith, Jr. , stated that he had a deed made out and requested
the Council to start action on accepting the water lines, sanitary
sewer lines, storm sewer lines and streets in Sherwood Subdivision.
Mayor Kegley referred this matter to the Subdivision Committee along
with. City Engineer William Walsh.
Motion made by Councilman. Nolen, seconded by Shukanes that office
purchase of one I . B. M. Electric standard typewriter, elite type,
movable carriage for the sum- of 8414.00. All Councilmen voted
"aye" with no "noes ." Motion carried.
The ,Council requested the City Secretary to write a letter to
City_ Engineer Walsh requesting an "as built" plan for the water
lines, sanitary sewage lines and storm sewer lines for Sherwood
Subdivision.
Meeting adjourned at 10:10 P.M.
