1964-10-29 CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES 115
The Pearland City Council held a special meeting on October 29,
1964, with the following city officials and guests present.
Mayor Pro-Tem Victor A. Nolen, Councilmen Steve A. Shukanes,
Thomas P. Alexander, Gene E. Sanders, City Secretary W. A. Mc
Clellan and City Engineer William C. Walsh.
and
Guests : Jerry Birdwell, David L. Smith, Jack B. Idoux, Escue
V. Harris .
In the absence of Mayor John G. Kegley, Mayor Pro-Tem Victor A.
Nolen presided. The meeting began at 7 :45 P . M.
Mayor Pro-Tem Nolen stated that the purpose of the meeting was
to discuss with Mr. Birdwell the present financial status of the
water and sewer bonds issued by the former Brazoria County W. C.
& I . D. No. 3, review and award a contract to the successful bidder
on a lift station to provide sewage service lines for Sherwood
Subdivision and any other business that might be properly brought
before the Council.
A discussion was held with Mr. Birdwell of the Dittmar Company
regarding the present financial status of the bonds and Mr. Bird-
well explained that he held $187,000.00 worth of bonds issued by the
old district", Senior or First Lien Bonds, and explained the
difference in these and other kinds of bonds to the Council. He
also stated he would be interested in working ,out an arrangement
whereby he would be able to handle some revenue bonds for tie City
when they were ready to do so.
Mayor Pro-Tem Nolen referred the matter to the Finance Committee
and requsted that they work with City Engineer, William Walsh,
and prepare a growth forcast report in the near future and furnish
copies to Mr. Birdwell.
Motion made by Shukanes and seconded by Alexander that the check
for a partial pay period to newly- hired policemen Donald Phillips
and the check to Pete Workman for a previously agreed fee be
approved. All Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes ." Motion
carried. ..
The following sealed bids were requested and received from three
contracts on an emergency basis, for a lift station and piping
for a sewage sersr.ice line to serve Sherwood Subdivision.
1 . Bid by Robert Mora, not acceptable .
2. Bid by Bost Ditching Service $3,780.00.
3. Bid by Dalsco not to exceed the sum of $2393.00 as follows :
Base Bid $1988.00 less $195.00 to substitute steel pipe,
plus S300.00 if pipe can be pushed under Highway or plus
$600.00 if it is necessary to drill under. Highway for pipe .
Motion made by Nolen, seconded by Shukanes, that the low 11.d
of Dalsco be accepted for the lift station and piping to serve
Sherwood Subdivision. All Councilmen voted "aye" with .no "noes .'d a
Motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 9:15 P. M.
