I. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 8:32 a.m.

III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — REQUEST MOTION TO TABLE MAY 2018 MINUTES
All outstanding Minutes were tabled for approval to the July meeting.
IV. BOARD REPORT
Mr. Mittica reported he is currently involved with Concerts in the Parks and have been
working the events for some time now. Mr. Mittica is also working with the Special Events
team to prepare for the Celebration of Freedom.
Ms. Earl noted she saw a posting on Facebook that a child was followed home by
someone she did not know. The child's parent reported the incident to the Pearland Police
department and the individual was found. Ms. Earl asked if police presence has been
greater since the incident. Ms. Montoya noted that anytime an incident like this happens
police presence will automatically increase. Ms. Montoya also noted reports are pulled on
the City's parks by the Police Department and sent to Parks & Recreation Administration.
Ms. Montoya also noted additional signs are currently being posted with emergency
numbers.
Mr. Hernandez noted he received comments regarding the safety of the water features at
Southdown Park. Ms. Earl noted her children wear water shoes for additional safety.
Mr. Wilson noted he talked with a citizen and received positive feedback regarding the
Natatorium. Mr. Hernandez noted the same.
Ms. Montoya noted it was a department goal to increase the size of camps next year since
wait lists are long and the need has increased.
V DIVISION REPORT — SPECIAL EVENTS — EARTH DAY RECAP/CELEBRATION OF
FREEDOM
Ms. Montoya reported the Earth Day went very well and included a butterfly tent, a
crocodile exhibit, and approximately 800 people were in attendance. Ms. Montoya noted
Concerts in the Parks is currently underway and going well.
Preparation for Celebration of Freedom is currently taking place. Ms. Montoya noted there
will be food vendors and the fireworks and will be sponsored by Westside Vet Hospital.
Ms. Montoya covered the logistics of parking passes and VIP passes for the Parks Board.
Ms. Montoya also passed out a map of parking and noted invitations would go out next
week to the Board.
VI. DISCUSSION — DISASTER /EMERGENCY TRAINING AVAILABILITY FOR BOARD
Ms. Montoya requested this Agenda item be tabled to a future meeting.
VII. DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Ms. Montoya requested this Agenda item be tabled to the next meeting. Ms. Montoya then
addressed citizen comments and concerns regarding facility/pavilion rental processes and
procedures as well as RSA policies.
VIII. ADJOURMENT
