2017-11-09 PARKS, RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD MINUTESMINUTES — REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND PARKS, RECREATION, & BEAUTIFICATION BOARD, HELD ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2017 AT 8:15 A.M., AT 4141 BAILEY ROAD, PEARLAND, TX 77584. I CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 8:16 a.m. II. BOARD MEMBER ROLL CALL Buck Stevens Chair Ted Mittica Vice -Chair Bethany Earl Board Member Vicky Smith Board Member Mike Wilson Board Member Melanie Lawson Parks & Recreation, Administrative Assistant Mychal Mitchell Parks & Recreation, Special Event Coordinator Lindsay Taylor Parks & Recreation, Event Specialist III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — NOVEMBER 2017 Minutes were unanimously approved. IV. BOARD REPORT Ms. Smith reported she attended Trick or Treat Trail and thought it went well, though windy. Mr. Mittica reported he enjoyed Trick or Treat Trail and felt the event went well, although parking was somewhat difficult. Ms Earl was unable to make Trick or Treat Trail. Mr. Stevens was unable to make the event, but heard from others about the event. Mr. Stevens also reminded the board about future upcoming events including the Veteran's Day walk and Wobble before you Gobble. V STAFF REPORT REGARDING UPCOMING EVENTS — Mychal Mitchell, Special Events Coordinator; Lindsey Taylor, Events Specialist Mr. Mitchell and Ms. Taylor updated the Board on both the Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 1st and the Hometown Christmas parade on December 2'. The special events staff addressed any remaining questions from the Board. For additional information, Mr. Mitchell and Ms. Taylor provided preliminary notes to the Board. VI. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING OUTDOOR LIGHTING POLICY Ms. Lawson passed out and reviewed the updated policy addition to the Outdoor Lighting policy. Ms. Smith inquired if the cost of using the athletic field includes the time it takes (2- 3 hours) for the lights to turn on; noting this could be potentially expensive. Ms. Lawson stated she would look into this and update the Board. The Board unanimously decided action would be taken on this policy change at the December meeting. VII. DIRECTOR'S REPORT Ms. Lawson (in place for Mr. Orlea/Ms. Capers) presented the following: > Both Mr. Orlea and Ms. Capers are out of the office today ➢ Ms. Lawson reviewed terms for Parks Board members ➢ Any questions regarding Woodcreek Park can be routed/emailed to Carry Capers ➢ For volunteer opportunities at the TAAF Winter Games, please reach out to Ms. Pat Wiley at 281.412.8903 ➢ Regarding December meeting, the Board opted to have a formal meeting for the month ➢ Welcome Center has reached completion and we are receiving positive feedback ➢ Activity pool is closed until further notice due to a pump going out ➢ New Aquatics Supervisor, Amber Popp, began work on November 6. The Program Manager position has been posted VIII.
