IV. BOARD REPORT
Mr Stevens noted he has been attending City Council meetings. Mr. Stevens also
noted he has been promoting the naming rights opportunity around the community.
Mr. Stevens explained he reached out to both the Pearland Rotary Club and the
Lion's Club.
Ms. Smith noted she hasn't made progress with Premiere. Ms. Smith also talked
about Earth Day and attendance being lower this year than last. Mr. Orlea noted,
according to our counts, the attendance was larger this year than last year. Ms.
Smith also noted that she received questions about Earth Day taking in west
Pearland. Mr. Capers explained there is a larger opportunity for exposure at the
park it was held at this year, which increased attendance. Ms. Capers also noted
once Independence Park is renovated, Earth Day will move to this location.
Ms. Smith also noted she was able to see the Pear Run, and said the races started
before they were due to start.
Mr. Mittica has been attending the planning sessions for Celebration of Freedom
on July 4, and is looking forward to the event this year. Mr. Mittica also reported
working Concerts in the Park, and requested a shade structure, or screen to block
the afternoon sun Mr. Orlea offered to speak with the Mychal, our Special Events
Coordinator, about putting up something to assist with the glare.
Ms Earl noted she was asked by a citizen why the pavilion at Southdown Park
faces North instead of South because it's difficult to watch their children. Mr. Orlea
noted the City did not build the structure; it was originally meant to be an athletics
complex and is now green space. Mr. Orlea also noted is was intended to be an
area for spectators to watch games; this is why it does not face the play area.
Ms. Cade talked about the Easter Egg Hunt for Wood Creek residents and asked if
it should be opened up to the City. Mr. Orlea noted is up to the discretion of the
Wood Creek HOA. Mr. Orlea offered to put it on the City website to get out to the
public, if desired.
