RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD AND THE CITY OF PEARLAND CITY
COUNCIL HELD ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 13 1995 AT 6:00 P.M. AT
PEARLAND CITY HALL, 3519 LIBERTY DRIVE, PEARLAND, TEXAS.
Mayor Tom Reid called to order at 6:00 P.M., with the following

Special guest in attendance, Claude Rogers, consultant from Leisure
Concepts and Design, Inc.
Mayor Reid welcomed staff and Board Members from the City of
Baytown, and staff and Board Members from the Pearland Parks and
Recreation Department.
City Manager Paul Grohman introduced Claude Rogers, consultant from
Leisure Concepts and Design, Inc., retained to design a master
concept plan of Independence Park.
Claude Rogers presented an informative slide presentation of the
concept plan.
Chairman Pro-tem Vince Bruno elaborated on the plan and it's
potential benefits. A question and answer period followed.

AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD, HELD ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1995,

The meeting was called to order at 7:15 P.M., with the following
present:

Absent from the meeting was Board Member Retta Absher.
Special guest in attendance, Claude Rogers, consultant from Leisure
Concepts and Design, Inc.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES•
Bobby Stevener made a motion to accept the minutes of the September
27, 1995 Board Meeting as presented. The motion was seconded by
Nell Fuller.
Motion approved 5-0.
EXCUSED ABSENCE
Bobby Stevener made a motion to excuse the absence of Retta Absher
from the September 27, 1995 Board Meeting. The motion was seconded
by Rosella Webb.
Motion approved 5-0.

PARK BOARD CHAIRMAN'S REPORT:
None.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
Men's Basketball League- Ed reported that the first City Basketball
League was in it's third week of play. The league of six teams are
playing on Wednesday nights at the Recreation Center.
Winter Brochure- Registration for Winter classes begins on
Saturday, November 18, with the classes beginning the week of
January 8, 1995.
Softball Leagues- Softball leagues continue their Winter play. At
this time the Leagues play Sunday - Thursday nights, with 23 Men's
teams and 6 Co -Ed teams.
Veteran's Day Celebration- Saturday, November 18, the first annual
Veteran's Day Celebration will be held on the front lawn of City
Hall. This is sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department,
the V. F. W. Hall, the Exchange Club, and the Pearland High School
R. O. T. C.
Fifth Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony- Ed issued an invitation for
all to attend the City's Fifth Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. This
... year's celebration will be held on Thursday, November 30, 1995,
6:45 P.M., and holds many surprises for all who attend.
Santa Mailboxes- Ed reported that beginning December 1, 1995, the
Department would install Santa Mailboxes at the Community Center,
the Pearland Recreation Center, and Pearland Wal*Mart. Letters
will be received and answered through December 22, 1995.
Second Annual Kid Fish Fest' 96- Ed announced that the Second Annual
Kid Fish Fest will be held Saturday, January 20, 1996.
First Annual Photo Contest- The Department will hold it's first
annual Photo Contest beginning November 20, 1995. The winners of
this contest will be displayed at the Community Center, and
announced in the local papers.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Nominating Committee Report
The committee presented their slate of candidates for the 1995/96
Year:

Bobby Stevener reported that a workshop will be held on Tuesday,
November 28, on the Tree Preservation Ordinance.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Bobby Stevener made a motion to accept the slate of off icers by
acclamation. The motion was seconded by Vince Bruno.
Motion approved 5-0.
NEW BUSINESS:
Appointment of Committee to Recommend Names for the Pavilions
at Centennial Park: Bill Chase appointed a committee to recommend
names for the pavilions at Centennial Park. The member of this
committee; Larry Wilkins, Nell Fuller, and Bobby Stevener, will
present it's recommendations at the December meeting.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Bobby Stevener asked about the possibility of having a botanical
garden/reflective pool constructed at the original pool site when
the new Aquatic Center is built. Ed Hersh and Claude Rogers
answered that this would be researched.
Vince Bruno asked about the time frame for completing the Aquatic
Center. Claude Rogers told him it would take between 9 - 12
months.

Nell Fuller made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion was
seconded by Rosella Webb.
Motion approved, 5-0.
The next meeting will be held December 18, 1995.
