MINUTES AS RECORDED OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND
PARKS, RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD, HELD ON MONDAY,
OCTOBER 21, 1996, AT 6:30 P.M., AT THE PEARLAND COMMUNITY CENTER
3523 LIBERTY DRIVE, PEARLAND, TEXAS.
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 P.M., with the following present:

Bobby Stevener Secretary (entered at 6:40 P.M.)
John Duston Board Member
Michael Grisby Board Member
Rosella Webb Board Member
Edward Hersh Director of Parks & Recreation
Special guest, Les Haulbrook, President of Bay Area Youth Soccer Association.
Absent from the meeting, Board Member Lisa Diese.
Bill Chase made a motion to excuse Vince Bruno for his absence from the September
19, 1996 meeting as he was working, but Bobby Stevener's absence will be unexcused.
The motion was seconded by Rosella Webb.
Motion approved 5-0.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Vince Bruno made a motion to accept the minutes of the September 19, 1996, Board
Meeting as presented. The motion was seconded by Rosella Webb.
Motion approved 5-0.
PARK BOARD CHAIRMAN'S REPORT:
Bill Chase reported that he attended the City Council meeting on October 14, to present
the Board's Resolution for Independence Park.

DIRECTORS REPORT:
BAYSA - Ed introduced Les Haulbrook, President of Bay Area Youth Soccer
Association. Les gave a brief introduction describing the Association and their goals as
well as their expectations for Pearland area youth (boys and girls).
Dog Trot - The second annual event was held September 21 in Independence Park with
42 participants. There was a lot of positive feedback that will help in preparing for next
year's event.
TAAF Annual Conference - Kate attended the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation
Conference and won the bid for a Men's "B" Church Tournament, which will be held
June 20-21, 1997, at the Centennial Softball complex.
ASA Annual Conference - Ed attended the Amateur State Athletic meeting in McAllen,
and won the bid for a Women's "D" Tournament, July 18-20, 1997.
NRPA Conference .- Ed will be attending the Annual National Recreation and Park
Association Conference October 22 - 27, 1996 in Kansas City. This is the greatest
gathering of park professionals at one time.
Veteran's Day Celebration - On November 11, at 11:00 A.M., the Department and the
VFW will co- host the Second Annual Veteran's Day Celebration on the front lawn of
City Hall.
Tree Lighting Ceremony - We are currently working on our annual tree lighting
ceremony which is scheduled for Thursday, December 5, 7:00 P.M. The Community
Band will be performing as well as Santa, his entourage, and the snow.
Park Tour - Park Tours are still available on a one-to-one basis for anyone interested.
Kid's Fish Fest - The event, held on October 12, was a huge success with 925
participants (250 parents and 675 children).

Vince Bruno made a motion to accept the Board's recommendations for the 1996/97
slate of officers. The motion was seconded by John Duston.
Motion approved 6-0.

Rosella Webb made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion was seconded by
John Duston.
Motion approved 6-0.
Meeting adjourned at 7:00 P.M.
