MINUTES AS RECORDED OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND
PARKS RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD HELD ON MONDAY
OCTOBER 20, 1997, AT 7:00 P.M. AT THE PEARLAND COMMUNITY CENTER,
3 523 LIBERTY DRIVE, PEARLAND TEXAS
The meeting was called to order at 7:01 P.M., with the following present:

Absent for the meeting was Bill Chase, Chairman who telephoned ahead of his absence.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Lisa Diese made a motion to accept the minutes of the September 15, 1997, Board
Meeting with the correction of her presence at that meeting added to the minutes. The
motion was seconded by Michael Crosby.
Motion approved 6-0.
PARK BOARD CHAIRMAN'S REPORT:
None.

DIRECTORS REPORT:
Park Donation Fund, since August 28" has increased to $1,320.32 (380 donations
averaging $3.47 per donation).
On August 140', Ed and Bob attended the School Board Meeting. An Awards
presentation was made to the East Jr. High School staff. December marks the 3`d
anniversary of the Recreation Center.
The 3rd Annual Punt, Pass and Kick competition was held on the rainout date of October
18''. There were 36 participants, six of which will go to the Sectional in Missouri City on
November 15'h.
The 3`d Annual Dog Trot is scheduled for October 251h, 10 a.m. in Independence Park.
The 3`d Annual Kids Fish Fest is scheduled for November l st, beginning at 7 a.m. in
Independence Park Swimming Pool. Volunteers are needed for this event.
Upcoming events: Veteran's Day Celebration, November 11"', I 1 a.m., City Hall
Tree Lighting, December 4d', 7 p.m., City Hall
Softball — The City will host a Men's D TAAF State Tournament, June 26-28"' and a
Women C ASA Tournament July 17-19.
Soccer — The City will host a BAYSA Girls U-10 Tournament on November 22-23 and a
U-9 or U-10 TAAF Tournament on April 18-19t`. We need volunteers!
Staff Development: Ed Hersh to attend NRPA Conference on October 28 — November
0 in Salt Lake City, UT
Bob and Jessica to attend LERN Annual Conference on December
2 — 7 in San Diego, California.
The Community Band, under the direction of Sam Matzas, has added an assistant
conductor, Philip Rothman. Philip is currently a senior at Rice University School
of Music.
Handed out an updated Parks and Recreation Department Fact Sheet.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Lisa Diese informed the Board that the Pearland Enrichment Foundation is currently
seeking the availability of non-profit grants in which to apply.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Consideration and Possible Action: Election of officers for FY 1997-98. The
nomination committee, comprised of Bobby Stevener, Vince Bruno and Bill Chase,
nominated the following: Bill Chase, Chairman; John Duston, Chairman Pro Tem;
Michael Grisby, Secretary. Rosella Webb made a motion to accept. The motion
was seconded by Lisa Diese.
Motion approved 6 - 0
NEW BUSINESS
Opened the floor for comments from Mr. Bill Berger.
OTHER BUSINESS

Diese.
