1997-11-17 PARKS, RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD MINUTESNOVEMBER MINUTES MINUTES AS RECORDED OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND PARKS, RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD, HELD ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 1997, AT 7.00 P.M., AT THE PEARLAND COMMUNITY CENTER 3523 LIBERTY DRIVE, PEARLAND TEXAS. The meeting was called to order at 7:10 P.M., with the following present: Bill Chase John Duston Lisa Diese Paul Knoble Dwayne Lum Edward Hersh Chairman Chairman, Pro Tem Board Member Board Member Board Member Parks & Recreation Director Michael Grisby, Secretary, arrived at 7:13 p.m.; Rosella Webb, Board Member, arrived at 7:45 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Lisa Diese made a motion to accept the minutes of the October 20, 1997, Board Meeting. John Duston seconded the motion. Motion approved 4-0. Lisa Diese made a motion to excuse Bill Chase's absence of October 20, 1997. Dwayne Lum seconded the motion. Motion approved 4-0. PARK BOARD CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: Tour De Lites Bicycle Ride will be held on December 13, 1997. This event is sponsored by the Hike and Bike Trail Committee (Clean Pearland). c:\msoffice\winword\pkbrd97Nov.17 DIRECTORS REPORT: We have added a Recreation Specialist to our staff, Brian Lofgren. More interviews are scheduled for open positions. Kids Fish Fest was held on November 1, 1997. There was over 400 kids and adults participating in this event. Dog Trot was held on October 25, 1997. There was 80 people/50 dogs entered into this event. The Veterans Day Celebration was held on November 11, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. in conjunction with Pearland VFW, ROTC and the Exchange Club. Soccer League was officially over this Saturday. BAYSA Girls U-10 Tournament will be held this Saturday. The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony is scheduled for December 4, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. The Winter Brochures are in production and scheduled to be delivered to residents by December 4, 1997. Pool repairs have been reformed. The deep end and the walls of the pool were replastered. Grouting work was done. WinterFest is scheduled for January 17, 1998 in Independence Park. The snow for this event has been ordered and the remainder of the program is being put together. The event start time is pending. Bob and Jessica will attend LERN National Conference in San Diego, California the week of December 2-7, 1997. Hyde Park Phase II Playground will begin this week with completion scheduled for early December. District Punt, Pass and Kick Tournament was held November 15, 1997 in Missouri City, Texas. Two Pearland kids took 3rd place (8-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy). Dave Melaas is developing two Soccer fields at on the East Side of the Softball Complex at Centennial (Softball field and Veterans). The fields should be ready for the spring competition. There is $1,485.77 in the Park Donation Fund account to date which is contributions made by 488 people. c:\msoffice\winword\pkbrd97Nov.17 COMMITTEE REPORTS Lisa Diese announces that the 20/20 Committee is ready to start applying for Enrichment Grants. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None. NEW BUSINESS Consideration and Possible Action: Fees for Rental of the Swimming Pool. With much discussion, it was recommended an increase of $5.00 above proposed for resident and an increase of $15.00 above. Dwayne Lum made a motion to approve. Paul Knoble seconded. Motion was approved 5/1 (Mike Grisby opposed). OTHER BUSINESS None. ADJOURNMENTS: Rosella Webb made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Paul Knoble seconded the motion.
