2000-11-20 PARKS, RECREATION AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD MINUTESCITY OF PEARLAND PARKS, RECREATION & BEAUTIFICATION BOARD November 20, 2000 MINUTES AS RECORDED OF THE MEETING HELD MONDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2000, AT 7:00 P.M. AT THE PEARLAND OLD LIBRARY, 3523 LIBERTY DRIVE, PEARLAND, TEXAS. Chairman, Dwayne Lum, called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. with the following present: Dwayne Lum Jack Click Kenneth Geyer Trish Matheson Jessie Gutierrez Ed Hersh The following were absent: Joseph Taylor (out of town) Paul Habermas (ill) APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Chairman Member Member Member Member Parks & Recreation Director Member Member Kenneth Geyer made the motion to accept the minutes of the September 18, 2000 meeting as written. Jack Click seconded the motion and it was voted upon and carried 5-0 PARK BOARD CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: None DIRECTOR'S REPORT: The Director's Monthly Activity Report was included in the Board packet. Jack Click stated that he would like to see the playground swing set purchased for Centennial Park installed as soon as possible since it was advertised last June that we were installing one soon. Ed Hersh discussed Greg Reynolds's presentation to City Council on the use of Herbicides. Ed Hersh discussed the pending lighted soccer fields. Ed Hersh informed the Board that Houston Community College Department of Horticulture would teach 145 hours of horticulture to selected members of the park maintenance staff. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None NEW BUSINESS: The new business was the election of officers for 2000/2001 terms. The Nominating Committee had proposed that the slate of officers be as follows: Dwayne Lum, Chairman, Jack Click, Chairman Pro-Tem, and Kenneth Geyer, Secretary. The above were elected by acclamation. Dwayne Lum presented the Board with a draft of a letter he would like to send to Ed Hersh requesting that Ed approach City Council and the City Manager on the Board's behalf to propose a joint workshop between the Park Board, City Council, and the Planning and Zoning Board. Discussion followed. Ed Hersh stated that he thought it was too. early since we do not yet have a City Manager but the Council is actively looking and hopes to fill the position by May. Mr. Hersh feels that it would be better to wait until new City Manager gets settled. Jack Click made the motion to table the letter discussion until next meeting, Kenneth Geyer seconded. Vote carried 5-0. ADJOURNMENT: Kenneth Geyer made the motion to adjourn the meeting. Trish Matheson seconded; vote carried 5-0.
