2012-01-23 CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTESMINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD ON MONDAY, JANUARY 23, 2012, AT 6:00 P.M., IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS, CITY HALL, 3519 LIBERTY DRIVE, PEARLAND, TEXAS. COUNCIL ACTION — RESOLUTION NO. R2012-10 — A RESOLUTION AND ORDER OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE SPECIAL RUNOFF ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, ON JANUARY 14, 2012. Mr. Bill Eisen, City Manager. Councilmember Owens made the motion, seconded by Councilmember Harris, to approve Resolution No. R2012-10. Councilmember Owens read Section I. of Resolution No. R2012-10. BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDERED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND,TEXAS: Page 1 of 3 — 1/23/2012 SECTION I. That the election described was duly called and notice thereof given in accordance with law; that said election was held in the manner required by law; that due returns of said election have been made by the proper officers; and it appeared from said returns, duly and legally made, that there were cast at such election 1,965 valid and legal votes; and that said election resulted in the following vote totals: FOR MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL, POSITION NUMBER FIVE (5) NAME OF CANDIDATE NUMBER OF VOTES RECEIVED PERCENTAGE Kevin Cole 689 35.17% Greg Hill 1,270 64.83% Voting "Aye" Councilmembers Owens, Sherman, Thompson, Harris, and Sherrouse. Voting "No" None. Motion Passed 5 to 0. MAYOR'S ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATE OF ELECTION TO NEWLY ELECTED OFFICIALS. Mayor Reid. Mayor Reid presented Greg Hill with his Certificate of Election. ADMINISTRATION OF OATH OF OFFICE TO NEWLY ELECTED OFFICIALS. Mayor Reid. The Honorable Judge Gordon Starkenburg administered the Oath of Office to Greg Hill to serve as Councilmember Position No. 5. COUNCIL ACTION — ELECTION OF MAYOR PRO -TEM. City Council. Councilmember Owens made the motion, seconded by Councilmember Harris to elect Councilmember Sherman to serve as Mayor Pro -Tem. Voting "Aye" Councilmembers Sherrouse, Harris, Thompson, Sherman, and Owens. Voting "No" None. Page 2 of 3 — 1/23/2012 Motion Passed 5 to 0. OTHER BUSINESS: None.
