Mayor Reid called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. with the following present: Mayor Tom Reid Mayor Pro -Tem Steve Saboe Councilmember Helen Beckman Councilmember Felicia Kyle Councilmember Kevin Cole City Manager Bill Eisen City Attorney Darrin Coker City Secretary Young Lorfing Absent: Councilmember Woody Owens Others in attendance: Jon Branson Parks and Recreation Director; Danny Cameron Public Works Director; Jack Colbath Director of Fire Services; J.C. PURPOSE OF HEARING — TO CONSIDER THE CREATION OF A REINVESTMENT ZONE AND TAX ABATEMENT FOR GARTNER COATINGS IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 312.201 OF THE TAX CODE AND CITY OF PEARLAND'S GUIDELINES FOR GRANTING TAXING ABATEMENTS. Mr. Darrin Coker, City Attorney. STAFF REVIEW OF THE PROPOSED CREATION OF A REINVESTMENT ZONE AND TAX ABATEMENT FOR GARTNER COATINGS IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 312.201 OF THE TAX CODE AND CITY OF PEARLAND'S GUIDELINES FOR GRANTING TAXING ABATEMENTS. Mr. Darrin Coker, City Attorney. City Attorney Darrin Coker stated prior to granting a Tax Abatement, a Reinvestment Zone must be established. This Public Hearing is to discuss the establishment of a Reinvestment Zone for Gartner Coatings. This is an established company in the City that is seeking approximately $630,000 in building improvements and $300,000 in equipment. The purpose of the Public Hearing is for Council to decide if the improvements are practical and feasible and if they will benefit the property within the zone it was created. Page 1 of 2 — 2/11/2008 CITIZEN COMMENTS Larry Marcott, 3606 Inverness Court, addressed Council and stated he supports this action. The City brought this company into town and needs to continue to show its support. COUNCIUSTAFF DISCUSSION Councilmember Cole stated he supports this item and feels it would benefit the City.
