NEW BUSINESS
COUNCIL ACTION — RESOLUTION NO. R2007-95 — A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING A CONTRACT FOR
ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES ASSOCIATED WITH THE RENOVATIONS TO FIRE
STATION NOS. 1 AND 4. Mr. Trent Epperson, Project Director.
Councilmember Cole made the motion, seconded by Mayor Pro -Tem Saboe, to approve
Resolution No. R2007-95.
City Manager Bill Eisen stated we previously discussed developing funds for paying fire
personnel and having space available in stations for boarding personnel. Because we
do not have stations setup at this time for boarding volunteer personnel, we are asking
Council to consider architectural services to make modifications to Fire Stations Nos. 1
and 4, which will provide coverage on the east and west side of town. Living quarters
will be expanded significantly in Fire Station No. 4 and living space created in Fire
Station No. 1. The contractor we are considering, worked at Fire Station No. 5 as part
of the preliminary engineering work with the bond program. Fire Station No. 1 is on
Old Alvin Road and Station No. 4 is on Cullen Boulevard. Fire Stations Nos. 2 and 3
are basically good.
Councilmember Beckman recently talked to people that have health problems due to
sick buildings. She is concerned that the construction materials used are healthy
materials, so anyone working in the City of Pearland can work in a healthy environment.

Mayor Reid stated the example of using glues, linoleum and plastics that do not
produce noxious fumes.
Councilmember Owens asked do we pay owner furnished items, such as building
permits.
Project Director Trent Epperson responded that no fees are involved in city projects.
Councilmember Owens asked about the specifics of kitchen items. The suggested use
of a Viking stove is probably the most expensive stove that you can buy.
Project Director Trent Epperson responded that specifications would be written for a
specialized commercial grade stove, not brand specific.
Voting "Aye" Councilmembers Owens, Beckman, Cole and Mayor Pro -Tem Saboe.
Voting "No" None.
Motion Passed 4 to 0, with Councilmember Kyle absent
