ADVISORY BOARD MEETING - MINUTES
Wednesday, April 18, 2018 - 6:00 p.m. at CVB
CALL TO ORDER & CVB ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER ROLL CALL.
Meeting commenced at 6:05pm. In Attendance: Gary Shepherd (Chair), Manny Patel (Vice Chair),
Margo Green, Teir Allender, Steve Saboe by phone, Lonzie Helms, Keith Ordeneaux, Jon Branson (COP),
Kim Sinistore — CVB Executive Director.
II. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING February 7, 2018 BOARD MEETING MINUTES.
Minutes accepted and all approved.
III. PUBLIC COMMENTS — none
IV. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING FY2019 CVB BUDGET.
Lonzie motioned and Gary 2nd and all 5 members voted and approved to support the FY2019 CVB
budget.
V. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING INDEPENDENCE PARK STAGE.
Lonzie motioned and Gary 2nd to spend up to $617,225 total on the stage project in Independence Park.
Vote passed 5-0.
VI. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING RAILROAD DEPOT.
This discussion has been tabled to July meeting.
VII. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING FUTURE CVB BUSINESS.
No new business

Executive Director's Report...
Agenda items:
• FY 2019 budget—attached for review and support.
• Independence Park Stage—Purpose of building has changed.
About$227,000;Going from basic structure and support(small group activity)to major event capable venue.We're adding
structural changes to enable professional grade sound and lighting equipment.
-Raising roof and increasing structural load bearing capacity. For trusses...
-Upgrading electrical distribution system to provide additional power to building.
-Running circuit and conduit 75'from stage for front of house.
-adding additional 2 transformer and plugs throughout the stage.
-Running a 2nd builder feeder to the 2nd transformer.
Still have rent sound and lighting equipment with generator.
• Railroad Depot—STOAArchitects provided prelim design. Input and financial support requested.
OTHER:
• Update on Hilton Garden Inn rebate agreement—The current agreement for HGI until 2022 or a total of 13 years with a
maximum reimbursement of$2.2 M,whichever comes first.Currently,the financial report indicates a balance of
$802,851.42.
• Alpesh Shukla has resigned from Adv Bd due to the sale of his hotel property.
• Cultural Arts Grant—For FY2019,CVB will increase grant request amount to$6000 max, up from current$5000.
• Hotel Dev Update—Home 2 Suites(90 rooms) is under construction on Hwy 288 and Beltway; pre-dev meetings held
for potential hotels on Shadow Creek Pkwy, PTC Business Center Drive and Broadway/Max Rd.
• Office lease renewal with CBL Properties for additional five years.Taking to Council in May.
Marketing:
Website page views—Quarterly—40,753(Jan-Mar) 1 Fiscal YTD(Oct-March)—92,624 1 FB fans/likes—4,376
• Website—Updated home page sliders, re-designed Birding,annual events page,Tony Booth&Opry landing pages.
88.4%new visitors;the Events in Pearland webpage continues to outpace other pages,followed by the home page as
second in views, "Where to Eat in Pearland"as third in views and Birding in Pearland native content page created with
an AJR Media campaign starting in April has already generated 1,658 views.
64.5%visiting from mobile devices;63.3%audience skews to females with high percentage ages 35-34;top sources
of traffic are organic(52.7%),direct(15%), pay-per-click(17.88%), FB(5.4%).
• Advertising—Currently running Expedia promotion,Tony Booth Days promo,Opry on the Square event push,Visit
Houston blogs, Reunions Workbook e-blasts and sponsored posts. Upcoming Sports Destination E-blast.
Sales Development:
• Leads& Inquiries—Quarterly room night pick-ups— 781 pickup rooms, 12 groups I Consumer Inquiries— 260;
6 leads sent to hotels during Q2 FY 2018; 1,801 total maps distributed during Q2 FY 2018
• FEMA rooms ending this month.
• Upcoming tournaments/events— KANZI Festival, May; Opry on the Sq April 23.
• Product Development: Birding brochure and Sri Meenakshi Temple self-guided tour.
