MINUTES OF A SPECIAL EMERGENCY MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PEARLAND, TEXAS HELD ON JUNE 9, 1990, AT 9:00 A.M. IN THE CITY HALL, 3519 LIBERTY
DRIVE, PEARLAND, TEXAS
The meeting was called to order with the following present:

PURPOSE OF THE MEETING:

TO DISCUSS WITH CITY OFFICIALS THE ASSESSMENT OF THE CONDITION OF THE CITY
FACILITIES USED IN FIGHTING THE FIRE AT SOLVENTS & CHEMICALS, INC. ON JUNE 8, 1990
Mayor Coppinger asked for reports from the various department heads.
Ronald McWhirter, Public Works Superintendent, reported the usage of 1.06 million
gallons of water over the normal pumpage.
Larry Steed, Fire Chief, reported that through our Mutual Aid Agreeement, the Fire
Department personnel from the cities of Houston, Friendswood, Alvin and Brookside
assisted in battling this fire.
Robert Cuna, Police Captain, reported receiving assistance in directing ttaffi
from members of the Harris County Sheriff's Department, City of Houston Police
Department, Brazoria County Sheriff's Department and police 'officers from
Friendswood.
Councilmember Smith reported that our E.M.S. personnel were able to handle the
situation but that the Friendswood E.M.S. were standing by for backup in case of
an emergency.
Barry Lastik, Parks Superintendent, reported on opening the shelter at Shadycrest
Elementary School.
It was pointed out that radio communications were a problem during the day.
Members of the news media were in attendance at the meeting and questions were
asked by them concerning the fire.
