1962-09-20 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTES . 1 PEARLAND CITY COUNCIL EETING LINUTES, PEJ:RLk..D, TEX:,S SEPTEMBER 20, 1962 The Pearland City Council was called to order at 7:30 F. A . in the City Hall by Mayor Gibbons with the following city officials and guests in attendance: Mayor - E. T. Gibbons Aldermen - Gene E. Sanders , Tom Ale:.ar..der, John Kegley, Dii*id L. Smith, victor A. Lolen Attorney - Jack Harrison Police - BiliRomoser, D. C. Sanders 111/ Guest - C. L. Stansbury, J. E. atts, Frank Lee H. •aney, Darrell Schultz, John L Miller, Charles T. Gray The minu -es of the meeting of September 6, 1962 were read corrected and approved Mayor Gi' ;ons a7 •ointed John Kegley as mayor pro-tem. Mayor Gibbons appointed David Smith and Gene Sanders to serve with Tom Alexander on the Garbage Committee. Mayor Gibbons next asked the council to review the Houston Natural Gas rete increase and possibilities of furnishing gas to Baker at:d Shady" Crest Sub-divisions . Jack Harrison was instructed to contact Mr. Jackson Hinds with Houston Natural Gs to discuss these problems. Mayor Gibbons reported that Bell Telephone personel will meet with the council committee September 21, 1962 to reshape the hudson 5 call scope to serve all of the people in Pearland. Mayor Gibbons reported that Griffin Brothers have arranged to uurchase a packer garbage truck. Financing has been arranged through the Pearland State Bank. A motion ::.a:: made by Tor:: Ale: ander and seconded by David omith that the city agree to an assign:.sent of the contract w t h Griffin Brothers to Pe• rland State Bank in the event a default or foreclosure of the mortgage between Pearland State rank and Griffin ' rothers and agreeing that the bank may assume the contrast in the event of default or foreclosure against Griffin Brot -rs . All Aldermen voted "Aye" with no "Noes". Mayor Gibb ,ns next asked for a report from Chief of `=olice D. C. Sanders. (1) It was reported that Auxiliary uniforms lave been ordered for 8 auxiliary policemen and will be available by December 1, 1962 (2) John Thomas I1ller was recommended as an auxiliary policeman. (3) Cief Sanders recon_ ended that the council authorize a 425.00 II salary increase for patrolman Bill Romoser. A motion was made by David Smith and seconded by 'v . A. A motionv s made by John Kegley and seconded by Ton: Alexander that policeman Bill nomoser be -granted an increase of ;x25.00 per month (to a monthly salary of ti;375.00 rer -onth), effective September 1C, 1962. All Aldermen voted "Aye" with no "Noes". Alderman John Kegley discussed insurance for the policemen and suggested that :-ore investi`ati on be :rade of available policies for this prupose. Alderman David Smith reported tht:..t bids are being taken to obtain pipe to install street signs. After due discussion on the garbage problem end review of a petition presented by the citizens of Shady Crest. A notion :a made by V. A. lolen and seconded by Gene sanders that the garbage problem be tabled u! til the Griffin Brothers hove a chance to honor their contract. Aldermen V. A. Nolen, Gene Sanders and Torn Alexander voted "Aye" David L. Smith and John Kegley voted "Lo". The Ayes being in the majority the :Lotion carried. Jr. :atts withdrew his petition on the garbage problem and ask that the petition be returned to him and not filed for record in the city records . The City treasurer reported a balance on h m:d as of Se^tember 2C, 1962 of 5,C76.85. i:.r. Charles T. Gray met ,.ith the council to discuss opening Sacramento Street north of Per Street.
