MEETING OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND CITY COUNCIL
HELD June 7, 1962
A regular meeting of the Pearland City Council was
called to order at 7:30 P. M. in the City Hall by Mayor Gibbons
with the following city officials and guests in attendance:
Mayor - E. T. Gibbons
Aldermen - Victor A. Nolen, Gene Sanders, Tom Alexander
John G. Kegley, David L. Smith
Attorney - ,Tack Harrison
Police - D. C. Sanders, Bill H. Romoser
Guests - J. R. Herridge, Lloyd Yost
Fire Marshall- Buddy Ellis
The minutes of the meeting of May 3 and May 17, 1962 were
read and approved. Mr. David Smith reported a balance on hand as
of June 7, 1962 of $7,540.28.
A motion was made by Mr. Tom Alexander and seconded by John
Kegley that the attached bills be paid. All Aldermen voted "Aye"
with no "Noes".
Mr. Victor A. Nolen reported that Mr. Marvel with the
highway department was contacted regarding signs for highway 518
and Dixie Farm Road intersection. This will be reviewed by the
highway department Engineering Department.
A motion was:made by Mr. Gene Sanders and seconded by
Mr. Tom Alexander that street repairs be authorized with the
expenses not to exceed $500.00. All Aldermen voted "Aye" with
no "Noes".
A motion was made by Mr. V. A. Nolen that Ryan Acres
Subdivision be accepted as an annexation to the city of Pearland
in accordance with provisions of 974-G Revised Civil Statues of the
State of Texas and All Aldermen voted "Aye" with no "Noes".
A lenghty discussion envolved about proper -public
education regarding city ordinances and various methods of acquaintinc
the public* with this material.
A motion was made by Mr. V. A. Nolen seconded by Gene
Sanders that Mr. Romoser be placed on permanent employment and
granted a $25.00 per month raise effective June 16, 1962. All
Aldermen voted "Aye" with no "Noes".
A weed and trash ordinance was read and discussed.
Mr. V. A. Nolen moved that action be tabled on the ordinance
until this matter can be discussed with the fire department.
A motion was made by Mr. Gene Sanders and seconded
by Mr. V. A. Nolen that engineering services be arranged to
survey Orange Street from Highway 35 across railroad and survey
intersection of Old Alvin road and Plum Street. All Aldermen voted
"Aye" with no "Noes".
