MINUTES OF THE PEARLAND CITY COUNCIL MEETING
HELD APRIL 9, 1962.
A special meeting of the Pearland City Council was
called to order at 7:30 P. M. in the City Hall by Mayor Gibbons
with the following city officials and guests in attendance:
Mayor - E. T. Gibbons
Aldermen - David L. Smith, Gene E. Sanders, John
Kegley, Victor A. Nolen
Guests - Henry Jordan
Judge - P. E Segelquist
Attorney - Jack Harrison
The Mayor explained that the purpose in calling the
special meeting was for the purpose of swearing in the newly
elected Mayor and Aldermen.
Attorney Jack Harrison explained that of the three
councilmen elected David L. Smith was elected for a two year
term and one of the new councilmen was elected to fill the
un -expired term of L. C. Hawkins for a one year term.
Mayor Gibbons explained that he believed the fair
way to determine who would be elected for a one year term
should be determined by lot drawing. This was agreed to by
both Sanders and Kegley. Lots were drawn, Mr. Gene Sanders
was elected for a two year term and Mr. John Kegley for a one
year term.
Attorney Jack Harrison executed the oath of office on the
new mayor and the three Aldermen.
Mayor Gibbons expressed appreciation for the cooperation
shown by the past council and expressed confidence in the newly
elected council to perform in unity in the future.
Attorney Harrison briefly discussed the duties of the
city Aldermen and explained the past history of operation on
the city of Pearland.
Mr. Henry Jordan, County Commissioner discussed his
road work in the Pearland area and the limitations of funds to
do all the road work required on local streets. He suggested that
the city would have to supplement the county expenditure on
roads and streets within the city limits of Pearland.
With no further business to attend the m-eeting was
adjourned at 9:30 P. M.
