MINUTES OF THE PEARLAND CITY COUNCIL MEETING
HELD MARCH 15, 1962
A regular meeting of the Pearland City Council was called
to order by Mayor Gibbons at 7:30 P. M. March 15, 1962 in the City Hall
with the following City Officials and guests in attendance:

The Minutes of the March 1, 1962 meeting were read and
approved. Mayor Gibbons next welcomed Doctor Rau to the Council
Meeting and explained to the Council that Dr. Rau had been requested to
act as City Health Officer and had agreed to act in that capacity with
Council, concurrence.
Mr. Harrison discussed the duties of the City Health
Officer .
The Treasurer reported a balance of $7,277.06 on hand as of
March 15, 1962.
The minutes of the Special Meeting of March 12, 1962 were
read and discussed. This meeting was for the purpose of resolving the
garbage dump site to the satisfaction of Manvel, Pearland and Brookside
Village. Alderman Alexander reported that the Committee met on Tuesday
at 6:00 P.M. at the dump site and it was agreed that Mr. Krietzer would
contact Commissioner Henry Jordan regarding grading of road into the
dump site.
The railroad crossing for Orange Street was discussed and it
was agreed that a surveyor be contacted and a cost estimate be obtained for
surveying the crossing.
Police Chief D. C. Sanders stated that Mr. Romoser was in
his estimation the most qualified candidate for policeman that had applied
for the job. His qualifications were re -read and discussed. Alderman
Nolen stated it was his individual opinion that Mr. Romoser was not sufficiently
experienced or of physical stature to meet the requirements for a Pearland
patrolman. Mr. Romoser expressed his desire for a 90 day trial to prove his
proficiency, this being the case Alderman Alexander moved that Mr. Romoser
be placed on a 90 day trial as policeman. The motion was seconded and
carried by all Alderman.
Alderman Smith made a motion that service date be March 16,
1962 and that the starting salary be fixed at $325.00 per month. The Motion
was seconded by Alderman Nolen, whereupon the question was asked and the
motion carried with all Aldermen voting "AYE" and with no "NOES".
After due discussion on the forthcoming city election, it was
agreed that Election officials should be increased to four. A motion was made
by Alderman Smith and seconded by Alderman Parker that four Election officials
be obtained to hold the City Election on April 3, 1962. Whereupon the question ,

was asked and the motion carried with all Aldermen present voting "AYE"
with no "NOES" .
Mayor Gibbons discussed the salary for election officials and
entertained discussion on increasing the daily wage. Alderman Smith made
a motion that the electioi j udge be paid $10.00 and the Clerks' $7.50 per day
to hold the City Election. Whereupon the question was asked and the
motion after beirIg duly seconded by Alderman Nolen, was carried with all
Aldermen present voting "AY"E with no "NOES".
A motion was made by Alderman Alexander and seconded
by Alderman Smith that Ordinance No. 49 be adopted to provide ( Forbiding
the burning of trash in open fires) Alderman Alexander, Smith and Nolen
voted for the Ordiance. Alderman Parker abstained. The "AYES" being in
the majority the motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 P. M.
