SPECIAL MEETING OF CITY COUNCILS OF PEARLAND,
BROOKSIDE AND MANVEL, HELD MARCH 12, 1962
A special meeting of the City Councils of Brookside Village, Manvel
and Pearland was called to order March 12, 1962 by Mayor Graves of Brook-
side Village in the Brookside Civic Center at 8:00 P. M. with the Following
City Officials in attendance:
E. A. Hamm, Brookside Village, Tom Alexander Pearland,
Woodrow Lesikar, Brookside Village, E. T. Gibbons, Mayor
of Pearland, W. E. Parker, Paarland, E. A.OLiver, Paul
Kreuser, Dale Peters Gene Del Bello, ManveL, Victor A.
Nolen, Pearland, H. B.Graves, Brookside Village Mayor,
Barbara Maynor, C. E. Newmann and Charles Guidry.
Mayor Graves explained that the purpose of the Meeting was to
discuss a dump site for garbag(e for the three cities now operated by the
County at a location approximately two miles North of Manvel. Mayor Gibbons
was requested to elaborate upon the events that have transpired in this regard
to date. He explained the County Commissioner desired to dispose of the
property because the District Attorney la s ruled that the County cannot legally
provide garbage dump sites for incorporated Cities. Methods of policing the
dump and ways to charge and collect for the use of the dump were discussed
and also who should supervise the dump.
IT WAS AGREED THAT:
1) A dump site was a must;
2) Someone will be required to supervise dumping and burning
during daylight hours.
3) Additional ground should be purchased for future use;
4) Maintenance of pits and covering old pits will require assistance
from the County or Drainage District at least initially;
5) Expense for caring for the site will require support from the
Cities in addition to the salvage material recovered;
6) Person caring for site should have small tractor with blade on
front to move sma1L quantities of daily garbage.
7) An attempt should be made to locate a private concern to operate
and control the site at the expense to three cities;
Mayor Gibbons nominated Tom Alexander from Pearland, Mayor Graves of
offered to serve on the Committee from Brookside Village and Mayor Kreutzer
offered to serve from Manvel. This committee will work out the details and
report back to the Councils with recommendations on how to proceed with the
work .
There being no further business to attend the meeting was adjourned
at 9:15 P. M.
