M. D. C. Hall Survey, Abstract No. 70, Brazoria County, Texas. (3801 Liberty Drive) NUMBER OF PERSONS SIGNING THE ATTENDANCE ROSTER: 31 Preparatory remarks were made by Mayor Tom Reid and Planning and Zoning Chairman Al Lentz. SPEAKING FOR THE -PROPOSED REQUEST: 1. Beverly Jackson, 1302 E. Houston, Pasadena. Ms. Jackson explained she would like to use this property as a private school, teaching pre -kindergarten through Grade 8. Ms. Jackson said she has been teaching in this curriculum for 22 years. This will be a high level, disciplined school with a structured curriculum. 2. A. G. Crouch, 805 Tall Pine, Friendswood. Mr. Crouch stated he has a child who has attended a school taught by Ms. Jackson and that she has a very fine program. Mr. Crouch stated he felt this property, once used by Faith Baptist as a church and day school, is far better being occupied and used for what it was originally built. 3. Maggie Laird, 2407 Parkview. Mrs. Laird stated she has a child who will attend the school and she knows the 5 teachers for the school. She feels the school curriculum is excellent and provides quality education for the children. 4. Richard Perry, 1404 Paul Drive. Mr. Perry stated his child was in Ms. Jackson's school and everything about the program is excellent. He feels the school would not be an imposition to anyone in the area. 5. Raymond Howell, 2502 Stacy Drive. Mr. Howell stated his home is across the street from the property. He and his wife are pro education but his prim concern is the increased traffic on Liberty. 6. Gary Zupancic, 2502 Julie. Mr. Zupancic stated he was in favor of the school but was also concerned about the traffic. 7. Ray Pereira, 2425 Parkview., Mr. Pereira stated he was in favor of the school but felt Liberty Drive would require traffic control. 8. James Sudela, 2426 Parkview. Mr. Sudela stated his property backs up to the proposed school and he would welcome this property being occupied. SPEAKING AGAINST -THE PROPOSED REQUEST: None QUESTION -AND -ANSWER -PERIOD In Council discussion with Ms. Jackson, it was pointed out that the City has plans to put in a Hike and Bike Trail from City Hall to the park which would cross over a portion of this proposed school property. Also, the development of a proposed roadway, from the new high school, extending from Hwy 35 to intersect with Liberty Drive going past the proposed school, is intended for the future. In answer to questions from the Council and members of the Planning and Zoning Commission, Ms. Jackson informed that the school would have a controlled campus, with a projected enrollment of 115 students this year with a maximum projection of 250 students in the future. Operating hours will be 8:00 A. M. to 3:10 P. M. but could be staggered to help with traffic control. Other questions for Ms. Jackson and City Staff concerned the possibility of installing a fence for safety reasons and whether adequate utilities and parking spaces were available.
