1964-09-19 - ELECTION CANVASS RETURNS - RES RESOLUTION CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RESULTS OF ELECTION WHEREAS, there was held in the City of Pearland, Texas, on the 19th day of September, 1964, an election at which there were submitted to the duly qualified resident electors of said City, for their action thereupon, the names of all persons who had duly and legally qualified as candidates for the office of Mayor of the City of Pearland, Texas, for the purpose of electing a person to fill the vacancy in the office of Mayor of said City; and WHEREAS, there were cast at said election 52? votes, of which number there were cast for each candidate the following votes: Joe Dan Calvin Received 132 Votes G. John Kegley Received 212 Votes Jack Ta~ior Received 64 Votes Gene Sanders Received ll9 Votes Received Votes Received Votes as shown in the official election returns heretofore submitted to this City Council and duly filed with the City Secretary; and WHEREAS, said election was called and held in all respects under and in strict conformity with applicable constitutional and statutory provisions; Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: Section l: That the election held in and throughout the City of Pearland, Texas, on the 19th day of September, 1964, which election is more particularly described in the preamble to this resolution, was duly called and notice thereof was given and said election was held under and in strict conformity with law; that only duly qualified resident electors of said City voted at said election; that due returns of said election have been made by the proper G. officers; that said election has resulted in John Kegley receiving the highest number of votes as a duly qualified candidate for the office of Mayor of said City° G. Section 2: That the said John Kegley · having received the highest number of votes in said election, is hereby declared to have been elected to the office of Mayor of the City of Pearland, Texas· and upon his qualifying for the office as required by law, he shall be the duly elected, qualified and acting Mayor of the City of Pearland, Texas. ATTEST: City Secretary (SEAL) RESOLUTION CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RESULTS OF ELECTION THE STATE OF TEXAS § COUNTY OF BRAZ0RIA The City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, convened in special session at the City Hall within said City on the 19th day of September, 196~, with the following members present, to-wit: John Kegley Mayor Pro-Tem and Alderman S. A. Shukanes Alderman Gene Sanders Alderman Tom Alexander Alderman Victor Nolen Alderman W. A. McClellan City Secretary and the following member(s) absent, to-wit: none when the following business was transacted: The Mayor Pro-Tem introduced a resolution which was read in full. Alderman Sanders made a motion that the resolution be adopted as read. Alderman Nolen seconded the motion for adoption of the resolution. The motion, carrying with it the adoption of the resolution, prevailed by the following vote: AYES: Mayor Pro-Tem Kegley and Aldermen Shukanes, Sanders, Alexander and Nolen. NOES:None. The Mayor Pro-Tem thereupon announced that the motion had duly and lawfully carried, and that the resolution had been duly and lawfully adopted. The resolution thus adopted follows:
