A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND,
TEXAS, SUPPORTING A PREFERRED ALIGNMENT FOR THE STATE
HIGHWAY 35 MAJOR CORRIDOR FEASIBILITY STUDY.
WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is preparing a Major
Corridor Feasibility Study for State Highway 35 and expects to finish that study in June
2OO5;
WHEREAS, three recommended viable alternatives have been recommended by
TxDOT for final evaluation;
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Pearland is concerned about the impacts
to the community from each of the recommended viable alternatives and is aware of
several new developments that have occurred within the alternative corridors that have
occurred since the inception of the study;
WHEREAS, the Diagonal Corridor, one of the initial alignments from the study which
has been dropped from further consideration, is similar to the Hybrid South alternative from
the July 2004 Brazoria County Toll Road Authority study, which the City Council supported
in Resolution R2005-51;
WHEREAS, the State Highway 288 Major Corridor Feasibility Study recommended
toll/managed lanes in the median of SH 288 as the best alternative for addressing future
mobility needs in the northern Brazoria County area;
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Pearland desires to enhance mobility
options for northern Brazoria County;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Pearland supports the Diagonal Corridor
as described in the preliminary findings of the State Highway 35 Major Corridor Feasibility
Study.

Section 2. The City Council of the City of Pearland does not support any of the
final three recommended viable alternatives as presented at the March 16, 2005, Steering
and Advisory Committee meeting.
