1965-09-23 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTES43" MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEAR LAND, TEXAS, HELD ON SEPTEMBER 23, 1965 AT 7:30 P. M. A regular meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order by Mayor Kegley in the City Hall at 7:30 P. M. September 23, 1965, with the following present: Mayor Councilman Councilman Councilman Councilman Councilman City Secretary City Engineer Public Works Director John G. Kegley Basil L. Roark, Buddy Ellis, Jewel Little, Jack B. Idoux, Robbie Robertson, David L. Smith, Jr:, and H. W. Raney. A motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Sanders that the minutes of the regular meeting held on September 9, 1965 be re- written at the request of the City Secretary and that action on same be tabled until the next regular meeting. WHEREUPON the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "ayes' with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Shukanes that minutes of the special meeting held on September 16, 1965 be approved. WHEREUPON, the question miss asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Cogbill that the following invoices and salaries be paid. (Previously approved) 6,669.54 A motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Sanders that the street and bridge committee contact County Officials, Railroad Officials and others about right of ways and costs. for a road to serve a prospective development. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes.'} A motion was made by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Nolen that THE -GENERAL BUILDING CODE ORDINANCE NO. 116 which was adopted on the first reading September 91 1965, the caption of which.,was read for the second time as of this date be noted. WHEREUPON the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "ayes' with no "noes." 215' A motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Calvin that upon the recommendation of Chief Casey, dispatchers for the Police Department by moved to the City Hall. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Sanders that the City discontinue the practice of withholding the sum of $87.50 as a deposit from policemen to cover cost of uniforms and accessories. All money now on deposit be returned to them. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." �^ A motion was made by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Shukanes that upon the recommendation of Chief Casey that Patrolman R. S. Phillips be promoted to Sargeant as of September 1, 1965. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, Councilmen Sanders, Shukanes, Nolen and Cogbill voted "aye" with Councilman Calvin voting "no." Following due discussion,a motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Nolen. that the Budget as presented be,adopted for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 1965 and ending September 30,,1966. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion was carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Sanders that in accordance with adoption of the budget that the tax rate will re- main at 75¢ per $100.00 of 60/ valuation. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all -Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Cogbill that the Public Works Director be authorized to hire two extra_ men and purchase material needed to repair the old filter beds at the old sewer plant. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." Mr. D. L. Smith, Jr. developer of Sherwood subdivision stated he was ready to develop section two of Sherwood subdivision, and would give additional footage, approximately 17" on the East side of a previously dedicated county road east of the 1st section of Sherwood S/D, to make it wider. Also, the Presbyterian Church would give the same along the west side of their property which is between F. M. 518 and part of the north line of Sherwood Subdivision. A motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Calvin that the City Engineer be instructed to draw up the meets and bounds and pass them to the City Attorney for drawing up the right-of-way agreement. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen present voted "aye" with no "noes:", Councilman Sanders was absent at this time. Mayor Kegley acknowledged receipt of a card of appreciation from the family of Mrs. H. W. Schriewer to the Councilmen of Pearland. Meeting adjourned at 10:30 P.
