1965-07-01 CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES2.15_ MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD ON JULY 1, 1965, AT 7:30 P. M. A special meeting of the City Council of the City of Pearland was called to order by Mayor Kegley in the City Hall at 7:30 P. M., June 24, 1965 with the following present: Mayor Councilman Councilman Councilman Councilman Councilman City Secretary Public Works Director John G. Kegley Gene E. Sanders Basil L. Cogbill Joe Dan Calvin Victor A. Nolen Steven A. Shukanes W.,A. McClellan Escue V. Harris Visitors: Kelly Sims, Jack B. Idoux, Dave W. Corbett, ^Dr. David Armbruster and Orlen:O'Day. Mayor Kegley stated that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss certain parts of our present budget and any other business that might properly be brough tbefore the Council. Councilman Calvin introduced Mr. Dave W. Corbett to the Council. He stated that Mr. Corbett had 23 years experience with tools and as a supervisor for all types of electrical work and programming. He further stated that Mr. Corbett had agreed to serve as a member of the electrical board. A motion was made by Councilman Calvin seconded by Councilman Nolen that Mr. Corbett be appointed as amember of the electrical board. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Council- men voted "aye" with no "noes." City Secretary McClellan instructed to write a letter to County Commissioner Henry Jordan inviting him to attend a meeting at City Hall to discuss the road situation in our area on Wednesday Night July 7, 1965. Councilman Nolen and Councilman Calvin instructed to audit Judge Segelquistfs books on Tuesday July 6, 1965 at 7:30 P. M. Councilman Sanders instructed to preside and open bids at the meeting to be held on Friday night July 2, 1965 at 7:30 P. M. Motion made by Councilman Sanders, seconded by Councilman Shukanes that the resolution offered by him outlining procedure for future Council meetings be adopted. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion failed „ Councilman Sanders voted "aye" with Councilmen Shukanes, Nolen, Cogbill and Calvin voting "no." City Secretary McClellan instructed to write a memo to the Police Department stating that no passengers would be allowed to ride in the police cars,_ including auxilliary policemen..':, unless on duty, or in case of emergency and on special occasions. Motion made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Nolen that the Council review the resoluation adopted about a year ago regarding the function of this Council and follow them in future meetings. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." Councilman Sanders stated that he had been requested by the owners of the J. & 0. Water Company that they would rather meet with the committee rather than the full Council at this time. Council agreed. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 P. M. Minute app ve as read and/or 1965.
