1965-06-17 CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES204 MIN'TMS OF A SPECIAL MEETING HELD ON THRUSDAY NIGHT JUNE 17, 19651 By THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND A special meeting of the City Council of the City of Pearland was called to order by Mayor Kegley at 7:30 P. M. June 17, 1965, with the following present: Mayor Councilman Councilman Councilman Councilman Councilman City Secretary City Engineer John G. Kegley Basil L. Cogbill Joe Dan Calvin Victor Nolen Steven A. Shukanes Gene E. Sanders W. A. McClellan Jack McLaren Visitors: David L. Smith, Jr., M. N. McGlathery, Lee Plyler, Mrs. Lula Belle Thompson, N. Y. Walker, Frank Lee, Jr., and0_i-+.Stripling. Mayor Kegley stated the purpose of the meeting was to sign the contract for water line improvements in the old townsite, to swear in the Equalization Board, to discuss the Circle Park subdivision and any other business that might be properly brought before the Council. A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Sanders that City Attorney, Jack Harrison write a letter td Mr. Alex J. Zabka, 509 Westside Court, Pasadena, Texas, about compliants concerning the dangers of an electric fence in a residential area. Also to draw up an ordinance outlawing all electrical fences in all residential subdivisions in the City. "WHEREUPON; the question was asked and the motion carried, Councilmen Calvin, Sanders, Cogbill voted "aye" with no "noes", Councilman Shukanes absent from the room. Mayor Kegley acknowledged and read a letter from Neal Caldwell that was in reply to Mayor Kegley's letter about the Congressional Redistricting Bill. A_-, hearing will be held in Federal District Court, in Houston on August 2, 1965.' City Engineer McLaren explained that part of the water line in Circle Park subdivision, from Pear Court West to Mykawa right-of-way, did not meet with the specification. He stated that it was 18" too high. "WHEREUPON", the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes". A motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Nolen that the invoice of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in the amount of $112.18 be paid. "WHEREUPON,` the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilman voted "aye" with no "noes". A motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Nolen that interest on $105,000.00 time warrants at 5% interest in the amount of $5,250.00 be paid to R. N. Eddlemap, Agent, Check No. 12 on Interest and Sinking Fund. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen# voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Sanders that check No. 40, Construction fund, in the amount of $21,253.95 Payable to tax - ala Construction Co., for services performed as of May 31, 1965, be signed. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Nolen that Check No. 41, Coostruction Fund, in the amount of $14,159.30, payable to Mc- Carty Construction Co. for services performed as of May 31, 1965, be signed. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried with all Councilmen voting "aye" with. no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Nolen that Check No. 589, Operating Fund, in the amount of $2.50 be paid to Sheriff Buster Kern of Harris County, for the serving of paper on J. K Bannerman, as a result of a tax suit by the City of Pearland. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and all 205'4; Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes.' The motion was carried. Mrs. Lula Belle Thompson requested of the Council an explanation of the letter that was written to all tax payers of the City of Pearland, A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Cogbill that a contract for two communications radios be awarded to General Electric Company, based on the recommendation of Chief Casey, also the fact that Civil Defense management will not pay for the Comco Radios. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Cogbill, seconded by Councilman Calvin that 3 3300 Lumun street lights be installed in Willowcrest subdivision with Mr. B; )nario to pay for the first years operation. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." The motion was carried. A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Shukanes that a. contract be given for the painting of the 38 aluminum.signs for Twin Creek Woods and Clear Creek'. Estate for the sum of 50� each, also to purchase 19 post for mounting them. WHEREUPON, the question was asked acid the motion carried, with all Councilmen voted "aye" and no "noes." Mayor Kegley stated that bids would be opened on Friday Night, June 19, 1965 for a new well and storage facilities for the old well site no. 1 located at the City Hall and appointed Councilman Shukanes to preside in his absence.
