MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING HELD ON THRUSDAY
NIGHT, JUNE 3, 1965, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND
A special meeting of the City Council of the City of Pearland was called to
order by Mayor Kegley at 7:30 P. M. June 3, 1965, with the following present:
Mayor John G. Kegley
Councilman Steven A. Shukanes
Councilman Gene E. Sanders
Councilman Victor A. Nolen
City..Secretary W. A. McClellan
City Engineer William C. Walsh
Visitors: Tom Alexander, Lee Plyler, Escue V. Harris, and E. A. Wasek.
Mayor Kegley stated that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the letting
of the contract for additions to water lines in old townsite and any other
business that; might be brought before the council.
A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Shukanes that
an ordinance appointing an equalization board for the tax year 1965, as
follows: M. 0. Knapp, Frank Lee, Jr., Nonny Walker and Cecil E. Wright
as alternate be adopted. -,a1A1.-
Councilman Sanders made a:substitute motion, seconded by Councilman Shukanes
that the Council act as the equalization board for the tax year 1965•
After due discussion a motion was made by Council Shukanes, seconded by
Councilman Sanders that both the above motions be tabled until full council
is in session and professional advice is available. All Councilmen voted "aye'
with no "noes" motion carried.
A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Shukanes that
Kay Service Company of Alvin, Texas, be awarded the Contract for their lowest
and best bid for additions to the water system in the old townsite, subject
to their meeting engineering and legal requirements as recommended by the
City Engineer. The motion carried with all Councilmen voting "aye" with
no "noes".
A motion made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Nolen that City
engineer be instructed to prepare an alternate bid for the construction of
a properly sized control building to be constructed at the City Hall Site
for the new no. 1 well. WHEREUPON, the question was asked the motion
carried, all Councilman voted "aye" with no "noes".
A motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Nolen that
the council instruct City Attorney Jack Harrison to write a letter of protest
to Governor Connally concerning the redistricting as it now stands, with
copies going to Schwartz, Caldwell, Tower, Brooks, Yarborough, and Thompson
and any other person City Attorney might suggest. WHEREUPON, the question
was asked and the motion carried, all Councilman voted "aye" with no
"noes".
The City Secretary was instructed to write a letter to the commissioner
of Drainage District No. 4 requesting that the dirt now piled upon Broadway
from Austin Street West to Mimosa Acres Subdivision be moved to the Orange
Street Crossing Site.
A motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Nolen
that City Engineer be instructed to write a change order for Contractor
—' to provide for sewage connections as lateral lines are installed in
Westminister subdivision. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion
carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes".
Meeting adjourned at 9:00 P, M.
