A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Pearland was called to order by Mayor Kegley at 7:30 P. A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Shukanes that minutes of regular meeting held on May 13, 1965 be approved with corrections. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes."° A motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Sanders that the following salaries and invoices be paid. After due discussion a motion was made be Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Nolen that necessary forms be obtained for the office and inspectors use. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." — A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Sanders that 202Bqards of shell be boughtand put on McGinnis Drive and Taylor Drive in McGinnis Subdivision as an emergency order WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Counlmevoted "aye" with no "noes.." A motion was ade by Councilman Sanders, se nded by�Gouncilman Shukanes sh that maintenance work be performed on McGinnis Drive and Taylor Drive in McGinnis Subdivision, subject to possible recovery of the amount expended from the contractor. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." Councilman Nolen reporting for the Street and Bridge Committee stated that he and Councilman Calvin had met with Mr. Baker of the State High- way Department and discussed the proposition of providing for turn lanes off Highway 35 on to Knapp Road east and Brookside Road west, by installing tile in the ditches for approximately ?00 feet alon Highway 35 at this Intersection. Also, the Austin Street and F. M. 519 intersection was discussed with Mr. Baker and he stated that he would let them know about their ideas as soon as possible. M. N. McGlathe , developer of Garden Acres, Section 3, submitted the final line plat t1aat was signed by the City Council on this date. Councilman reported on the condition of the garbage dump and after due discussion &amotion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Council- man Calvin that electricity be installed in the house located on the garbage dump site. WHEREUPON the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted flaye" with no "noes." A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Shukanes that a 4 ft. high chicken wire fence be installed on the north side of the garbage dump site. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." After°due discussion about our street repair program, a motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Shukanes that City Attorney Harrison be instructed to draw up necessary papers to advertise for bids for the maintenance of our roads and streets, except furnishing material, for a'period of one year. Councilman Calvin to secure a letter from Commissioner Jordan mat he will furnish the City of Pearland with a stockpile of materials. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilman voted "aye" with no,""noes." Mayor -Kegley stated that a Board of Equalization will be appointed at the next special meeting to be held on Thursday Night June 3, 1965. A motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Nolen that John H. Lagarde and B. M. Beaver be hired as dispatchers and for other work assigned to them by the Chief -of -Police at a salary of $100.00 per month. WHEREUPON the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "ayes' with no "noes." Mayor Kegley appointed Councilman Shukanes and Councilman Nolen as a specials committee to check into the working conditions of our police officers. A motion was made by Councilman Nolen, seconded by Councilman Calvin that the sanitary sewage line project for the Senior and Junior High Schools be 201 advertised for bids. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with the'*exception of Councilman Sanders who voted "no." A motion was made by Councilman Calvin, seconded by Councilman Cogbill that the letter regarding the mowing of vacant lots be advertised in the Progess "To the residents of Pearland.f WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the: motion carried, all Councilmen voted "aye" with no "noes." Regular meeti.n adjourned at 10:00 P. M. with an executive session called at 10:09 P. M. The prolonged illness and hospitalization of Mrs. Dorothy Thompson was brought before the Council. After due discussion a motion was made by Councilman Shukanes, seconded by Councilman Sanders that the pay period for Mr's. Dorothy Thompson be extended for two (2) weeks to June 15, 1965, subject to Council review on that date.
