A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, temporarily
waiving building permit fees for all building inspections fees associated the
repair of homes and businesses damaged from Hurricane Harvey.
WHEREAS, the recent flooding associated with Hurricane Harvey severely damaged
residential and businesses properties in the City resulting in a disaster declaration; and
WHEREAS, it is in the City's best interests to assist affected residents and business owners
who are required to repair and renovate structures damaged by Hurricane Harvey; and
WHEREAS, continuing the building permit review and inspections process will ensure
compliance with building codes and life safety that are in the best interests long-term of residents
and the City; and
WHEREAS, normal building permit inspection fees related to damage caused by Hurricane
Harvey would add financial costs to affected property owners that the City is willing to absorb for the
staff time and expertise to provide this service; and
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS:
Section 1. That building permit inspection fees associated with the repairs of homes and
businesses damaged as a result of Hurricane Harvey are temporarily suspended for 30 days
beginning Thursday, August 31, 2017 through Friday, September 29, 2017.
Section 2. Eligibility for the building inspection fee waiver shall be contingent on the
following conditions:
a) Filing of a complete building permit application by the property owner or a licensed
contractor in accordance with the City's unified development Code; and
b) Issuance of the building permit by the City; and
c) No expansion shall be made to, or any change in use or occupancy, any building on
the applicants property; and
d) Acknowledgement that any repairs to non-conforming structures will not change their
non-conforming status.
