These changes reflect he current status of the priorities for the city of Pearland in regards
to the Master Parks Plan. These proposed changes meet the current goals and
"encourage enjoyment of recreation by persons of all ages, and socio-economic
conditions".
Outdoor recreation facilities and programs will provide the public with many
opportunities for recreation and overall enjoyment of life in Pearland. These include:
Active recreation - includes sports fields (baseball/softball, soccer, football, etc),
courts (tennis, basketball), outdoor swimming/water play and the like.
Passive recreation - includes areas and facilities for picnics, family gatherings,
trails, open space, and the like
· Preserves - includes areas that protect wildlife habitat, encourage limited public
access for nature study and enjoyment, and provide oppommity for educational
study of nature, such as outdoor classrooms
· Green Infrastructure - facilities and land that provide a network of linkages
between parks, schools, private recreation sites, and corridors along major
roadways, creeks, natural areas and preserves. This infrastructure extends the
value of any one site/facility by providing improved access for all residents. The
linkages may take the form of inter-site trailways, protected sidewalk areas along
major thoroughfares, and a variety of internal trails of varying widths, routes and
surfaces appropriate to the surrounding environment.
Indoor recreation facilities and programs will provide Pearland residents with
opportunities for:
· Sports, fitness/health enhancement, community social interaction, arts and crafts,
clubs and organizations, and the like.
