R2004-157 09-27-04RESOLUTION R2004-157 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS SUPPORTING THE 2004 BRAZORIA COUNTY MOBILITY BOND REFERENDUM TO PROVIDE BETTER ROADS FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR CITIZENS. WHEREAS, the Commissioners' Court of Brazoria County established the Mobility Steering Committee to study and address the growing needs of Brazoria County citizens, and, WHEREAS, the Mobility Steering Committee is made up of broad-based organization representing a county-wide coalition of community, civic, and business leaders, combining public and private sector experience and knowledge, and, WHEREAS, addressing mobility is critical to achieving safe and expeditious routes to evacuate large numbers of the gulf coast population in the event of the notice of an incoming hurricane that causes severe destruction in its path, and, WHEREAS, significant growth in Brazoria County has caused congestion which has overburdened aroa roadways, and, WHEREAS, the importance of moving traffic expeditiously is in the best interest of achieving a better quality environment for Southeast Texas, and, WHEREAS, the Mobility Steering Committee has recommended 22 projects of regional significance that includes something for all Brazoria County cities, and Brazoria County Commissioners' Court has accepted the recommended projects to include in this referendum, and RESOLUTION NO. R2004-157 WHEREAS, the 50 million dollars from this referendum will leverage up to 400 million dollars in road improvements for Brazoria County, and WHEREAS, these road improvements will improve evacuation routes, improve access that will shorten commuting times, and create better commerce corridors, thus increasing business, educational, and cultural opportunities, and WHEREAS, the Brazoria County Commissioners' Court has called for the referendum to take place on November 2nd, 2004, WHEREAS, the City of Pearland has proposed City participation in six projects affecting the Pearland area as defined in Exhibit A, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: Section 1. That the City of Pearland hereby adopts this resolution of support for the Brazoria County Mobility Bond Referendum, and urges all our citizenry to support this cause and vote "For" the referendum on November 2nd, PASSED, September 2OO4 APPROVED , A.D., 2004. and ADOPTED this the 27th day of MAYOR RESOLUTION NO.
